It's Gonna Be A Cold One.

Posted : 15 years, 4 months ago on 12 December 2008 05:24 (A review of Groundhog Day)

I remember watching this film a long time ago, (as in almost a decade or so ago). I never realized how great it really is. In my opinion, you can't be a kid and understand the concept of this movie. It is in so many words an adult comedy. I am not saying it has even the smallest bit of inappropriate content in it, but the younger groups might think it is stupid just seeing the same thing over and over again. The truth is, it is nowhere near the same thing over and over. It is a great/unique story not seen often today.

A grumpy weatherman (Bill Murray) keeps reliving the same day about a hundred times straight. (By the way Bill Murray could not have done better in his role, and was perfect for the part). The day is February 2nd: Groundhog day. At first, he is confused, and becomes even more grumpy due to nothing being different day by day. (You know you would get a little irritable if that happened to you too. I know I would) He eventually memorizes every event and exactly when they happen. It is very entertaining to watch. After awhile Phil realizes it is actually a privilege to happen to him. He takes advantage of what everyone wishes they could have: basically an unlimited amount of lives, and being able to do whatever you wanted with absolutely no consequences. He makes everything right, helps the community out, and falls in love with his co-worker.

The moral to the story is love, and to live everyday as if it is your last. this film does a great job at portraying that. Great ending, and an absolutely excellent film. Definitely a classic to be remembered, and of course a must buy.

"What Do You Mean You People?"

Posted : 15 years, 4 months ago on 8 December 2008 01:08 (A review of Tropic Thunder)

The hype for this film was crazy, and I was hearing nothing but good things about it. For the first month it was in theaters, then out of it, I was dying to watch it, but never got around to it. Thank god I gave it a good viewing last night from the nifty "Netflix" service, because It was just as good as advertised, and also much different than I was expecting.

The story is very unique, and not usually seen. A rookie movie director attempts to make a film based on a famous soldier named "Four Leaf", who was a hero in the Vietnam war. Things go hilariously wrong and the actors are forced to become real life military men deep into the jungle. Pretty funny I know.

It launches with a few fake movie trailers introducing all the main characters, and what kind of actors they are. The actors featured are Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr, and another guy. The fake trailers are very funny, and really give you a good idea as to how funny the movie will be.

My personal favorite quote is when Robert Downey Jr. says "What do you mean you people?" in response to Ben Stiller's comment. This film is filled with enough great actors to win many awards, and is one of the funniest movies of the year.

One Of The Most Unique Games I Have Ever Played.

Posted : 15 years, 5 months ago on 2 December 2008 03:30 (A review of BioShock)

I gave Bioshock a rent at my local video store seeing as I had never played it, and was hearing a lot great things about it from critics and my friends. I heard it had the best storyline of any game, and some other pretty interesting things.

The verdict is a positive one. I was very surprised and impressed at how good this game really is. It puts up some of the best graphics, gameplay, storyline, and just overall entertainment as a game can possibly have in it. I will admit, the game did begin getting really difficult after about an hour of playing time, but that us actually a good thing because most games these days don't take long enough to complete.

I love the ability to upgrade the most unique types of weapons. You can use almost any object to beat the crap out of your enemies, and make them even better by adding things to them. The last game I played that was as unique as this was "Oddworld", and that was made a long time ago. That is a good thing because I personally love odd and unique games. This is a great game that features every great aspect, topped off with a lot uniqueness. I highly suggest buying it.

The Demo Is Great.

Posted : 15 years, 5 months ago on 26 November 2008 06:41 (A review of Mirror's Edge)

I just recently got a chance to check out the demo of this title, unfortunately I have not yet purchased it, but by the looks of this,it is worth the full sixty dollars or even more.

The game is setup unlike any other, placing you in a huge free roam city with several extraordinarily fun aspects mixed throughout. Think of it as parkour but much much more advanced.

I was able to complete the training mission where a lady teaches you the ropes putting you through a bunch of different obstacles and such.

I could buy this game, but most likely will just rent it. Give it a try, you will not regret it.

28 Days Later Much Better.

Posted : 15 years, 5 months ago on 15 November 2008 06:08 (A review of 28 Weeks Later)

I was honestly expecting much much more out of this film, and thought there was no way it could be bad, due to it being a sequel to one of the best horror movies ever made, "28 Days Later", which was a very successful motion picture back in 2002. "28 Weeks Later" lacked the qualities that made the original so great. Here are a few aspects missing: Story, Acting, Character Development. Those are a few main things keeping this from topping the original. I did leave out another thing however. Usually movies carry over to their sequels, for example the "Ocean's Films". The same characters were in all three, and the story continued as well. "28 Weeks Later" had absolutely nothing similar from the first. The characters were different, and the story was brand new and started out fresh. That bugged me because I was hooked on "Days", and they just basically screwed it up for me.

I will admit, this film was not all bad. The pros of it are the intense action scenes. There were several sniper shots that looked rather cool, and there were plenty others to entertain me. Another positive aspect was the way the zombies looked. They did a good job there.

Although this film may be filled with non-stop action and suspense, It just wasn't developed enough to make a good sequel.

Better Than People Give It Credit For.

Posted : 15 years, 5 months ago on 14 November 2008 02:45 (A review of Call of Duty 3)

Being a big "Cod" fan, and having only played the 2nd and 4th installments, I just had to see what all the fuss was about in "CoD 3". The reason I say the word fuss is because I kept hearing negative things about this game and that it sucked. That just goes to tell you that the only opinion that matters is your own, because this game is actually very fun. I only played a little bit of the campaign, but online I played for awhile. It has a lot of the same aspects as the previous games and the most recent, including the leaderboards, the weapons, and just the overall gameplay.

The only thing that bugged me was the lack of experience points being shown. When you get a kill, it doesn't say +5 or whatever, it just has writing saying who killed who. No big deal, but would have been better with it.

I was also pretty disappointed about not knowing when you rank up and having no challenges, which is actually a rather new installment so it wasn't really too bad.

I would say go buy this game for cheap at your local game store, or online. It is worth every dollar.

The Definition Of A Masterpiece*

Posted : 15 years, 5 months ago on 11 November 2008 09:00 (A review of Kill Bill: Vol. 1)

*May Contain Spoilers*

The whole "Kill Bill" series really never appealed to me due to the way the previews looked, and that it wasn't my type of genre I usually watch. It seemed like a film that I for sure would just turn off after the first ten minutes. I guess I never really took a minute to deeply think about how good it could have been if I were to watch it, so I gave it a chance last night. Lets just say I was blown away. From the amazing cinematical experience, great animation, and just truly unique screenplay that I had never witnessed until now, I just couldn't dislike this film nor even look away for a second.

The storyline is flawless. It it is about a woman named "The Bride" (Uma Thurman) who is out for revenge after almost being killed by a group of assassins called "The deadly viper assassins" (I could be a little off on the title) at her wedding. She is having a great life and even has a baby due, but these people just had to make here life hell. She wakes up in a hospital after four years and has flashbacks of who was responsible for the wrong doings of her. She decides to become great in combat and kill everyone involved. She travels to Tokyo looking for a man who is great with swords, and has a bunch in stock, non of which are for killing people because he retired some years back. She pursuades him to make her a sword called "Japanese Steel" which is the best sword to use in combat due to the strength and power over all the others. He says it will take him a month to make, so she waits month, stays at his place, then receives the sword and begins her training. I forgot to mention that the swordsman was actually a teacher of Bill; the main guy she wants killed. She knows that and uses it to her advantage.

After all the training is done, she takes an airplane to another place in Japan. While one the plane she writes a "Fifth Kill List" to remember who is next. She plans to kill an elite asian assassin named O-ren Ishii. The bride pretty much stalks her to her next point of destination and awaits for the perfect moment to strike her enemy. O-ren Ishii is the leader of a group with 88 people, but I forgot the exact name of it. They all go to dance party like event. The bride follows them, hides in the bathroom, then grabs one of Oren Ishii's assistants who I like to refer to as "The cell-phone girl", and cuts her arm completely off. Later on "The cell-phone girl" ends up in a hospital. But let me finish telling you briefly the rest. So The bride is then spotted and is than attacked by all of Ishii's army. She fends them all off rather easily.

The ending scene consists of an epic fight between her and Ishii. They fight in a unique and beautiful looking environment. (Tarantino does great scenery). Thay have a long epic battle scene, and who defeats who, will be discovered by you when you watch it.

Quentin Tarantino combines enough humor, violence, great screenplay, and an amazing cinematical experience to make this one of the best films ever made, and one of my favorites. I cannot wait for His other work.

Now one of my faves, Apatow's best

Posted : 15 years, 5 months ago on 11 November 2008 07:19 (A review of Forgetting Sarah Marshall )

When I first heard of the film "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" I didn't think much of it and wasn't really feeling like watching it, But that was before I was fully aware of how good Judd Apatow really was, though I had already seen his previous work like "40 Year Old Virgin" and "Knocked Up". I loved both those flicks, but Sarah Marshall was a little better. I know that is a lot to say, but you will see if you watch it. He really made his mark in this film and proved himself to be one of the best around.

Having already been a fan of Jason Segel in his role on "How I Met Your Mother" where he is pretty good and has a lot of witty dialogue, I knew he wouldn't disappoint me as Peter Bretter in this film. I admit, he was a bit annoying on the rare occasion, but overall he really was golden and had me laughing hysterically. A fair warning though, he is completely nude in a couple of scenes, but it adds to the humor of the movie. He was definitely my favorite character. Though Segel Sparked, he was not the only great performer. There was Mila Kunis (That 70's Show) who was honestly pretty amazing and really proved that she has what it takes to act in feature films. She was gorgeous throughout the whole film as well. Paul Rudd, Kristin Bell, Russel Brand, and Jonah Hill also starred and did not disappoint. Bell played the bitchy ex girlfriend who dumped Peter at the beginning of the movie because she was with another guy, played by Russel Brand. They were a perfect couple seeing as they were both selfish and irrogant jerks in the film. I was surely impressed by the characters and the development of them. There wasn't one boring character and it seemed like even the smaller roles got fair screen time. I was connected to them while I was watching, and when it ended, I wanted to see more, like a sequel or something because they were so real. It was like I could befriend them in real life.

The story is the best in a comedy since "The 40 Year Old Virgin" and "Hot Fuzz". It was rather basic, but was pulled of very well. I found it very difficult to look away because of how appealing it was. I probably laughed at half or more of the scenes and had a hard time not laughing. To put that into simpler words, I would say this is the best comedy of 2008, and one of my all-time favorites. If you have not watched it, please do. I cannot recommend it enough.

9.7/10

Nearly Flawless Classic.

Posted : 15 years, 5 months ago on 7 November 2008 06:36 (A review of Dog Day Afternoon)

"Dog Day Afternoon" is a nearly flawless classic that combines humor, drama, and a little action into one big masterpiece. In my opinion it is one of Al Pacino's best films ever.

"It started out as a simple bank robbery on a calm afternoon day in New York, and turned into a chaotic circus for everyone to see."

This film tells the true story of a huge and rather comedic bank robbery gone wrong, and lasting for a whole two days. Al Pacino plays the psycho yet harmless criminal Sonny Wortzik. The reason I say harmless is because he is actually an extremely friendly person in the film, and doesn't actually harm anyone, which makes him unique and an even better character. He partners up with his best friend Sal (John Cazale), the paranoid yet dedicated counterpart to Sonny. They were both the perfect actors for the roles.

As the bank robbery coincides, there life's are exposed to the media, and they get more and more eager to get out of there with there loads of money. I forgot to mention what the money was for. It was actually for a sex change for Sonny's boyfriend, who is in the film for the last half of the film played by Chris Sarandon.

They are able to make a deal with the cops and the citizens,(like most robbery films),but the cool and unique thing was, they actually befriended them for two days straight. They request a ride to the airport so they can get as far away as possible. In my opinion, it was a stupid idea in the first place to get the outside world involved, but you know, it made the film that much more humorous.

The climax and the ending to this film are both pretty epic, and I will allow you watch it, opposed to telling you in my review.

"Dog Day Afternoon" is a classic gem and a definite film to remembered for years to come.

Fun Shoot-em-up Arcade Style Experience.

Posted : 15 years, 5 months ago on 7 November 2008 06:09 (A review of The Club)

Unfortunately I have only played the demo of this game, but It was enough playing time to enjoy for awhile. The demo only consisted of one or two full, but quick levels to complete.

Basically the objective is too shoot every enemy that pops up on the screen, it is that basic. I know, it sounds ridiculous, but it gets a little addicting, kind of like "Chicken Invaders" or "Space Invaders".

I might purchase this game in the future when it gets placed on the sale rack at Gamestop, or just buy it online for a couple bucks.

I don't know why I didn't buy it already. This is one of the most entertaining arcade style shooting games I have ever played.
