Fun For What It Is.

Posted : 15 years, 5 months ago on 7 November 2008 05:56 (A review of Army of Two)

I have not always been the biggest fan of the third person genre, with the exception of the Max Payne and Hitman games, but this game has some appeal to it, and it is pretty enjoyable.

The gameplay is similar to "Gears Of War", and I honestly dislike that game, but thank god there were many differences between the two, and this game surpasses that.

One of the cool features there is, that has become more common these days, is the unique cover system, that reminds me also of the "Rainbow Six Vegas" series. I wish they would have pulled it off better though.

The weapons in "Army Of Two" are good however, and are very fun to use. I have never seen any of them used before this game.

This is going to be one of my shorter reviews because I don't really have anything else to say about this game. I do recommend it though.

Different And Unneccesary.

Posted : 15 years, 5 months ago on 6 November 2008 03:35 (A review of GoldenEye: Rogue Agent)

With the success of the other Bond games, I didn't see how it would have been possible for this game not to be great, And Seeing as it was one of the only games I hadn't played in the series (the other being From "Russia With Love"), I thought I would pick it up from my local video store and give it a whirl. Let's just say it wasn't worth my four dollars to rent.

What I witnessed during the game was honestly not Bond-like at all. The guns were science fiction-like, opposed to the classic Bond look, that blew me away and probably tons of others (especially in "Goldeneye") And that bugged me because in my opinion this game should of had some obvious appeal to it. The gameplay was also majorly flawed with a pretty dull single player go-through, (though I didn't finish it due to boredom), and The whole style just wasn't there. I am sorry to say this, but This game is an unnecessary add-on to an already nearly perfect series. Thank god I've heard good things about "Quantum Of Solace", because I was starting to get worried about the Bond franchise.

"Rogue Agent" is not a game I recommend playing unless you don't care about the Bond series. This is easily the worst of them all.

Best Sitcom Ever? Umm?

Posted : 15 years, 5 months ago on 5 November 2008 07:19 (A review of House of Payne)

That is what the announcer on TBS says whenever the preview airs. It is so farfetched it makes me laugh. I cannot even remember laughing at any of the five odd episodes I have watched. I may have chuckled at certain moments, but for the most part it really is just above average, and I mean "just". It is bordering the "pretty bad" category, which the last time I checked is not a good thing.

I do think The cast can be funny at times, but there isn't enough chemistry between them, they don't quite connect. The script is flawed and bounces everywhere. It also doesn't help when they are difficult to understand.

Anyway, it is a worth watching show but not worth buying on DVD. Don't watch it expecting much.

Amazing. Not Much Different Than The Original.

Posted : 15 years, 5 months ago on 5 November 2008 12:30 (A review of Chicken Invaders 2: The Next Wave)

Every Chicken Invaders game has been amazing thus far.

This installment entitled "Chicken Invaders 2: The Next Wave" isn't much different than the original, despite a few new great features being introduced, like multiple weapon types opposed to number one's only green gun. Now there is green, red, yellow, and maybe a couple more.

That is not the only new great addition, Now the waves get different as you progress through space. I feel that it got annoying after awhile when the boss was the same every time, just a notch more difficult but still pretty easy. The waves basically didn't change either, which gave me the opportunity to know what was coming every time.

There is honestly no comparison to the Chicken Invaders games, but please do try this game.

A Good Father/Son Movie.

Posted : 15 years, 6 months ago on 2 November 2008 08:30 (A review of Madison)

"Madison" tells the true story of Jim McCormick and his son Mike McCormick (Jake Lloyd and James Caviezel) on their journey to fame in a hydro plane competition in 1971. The film takes place in a little town called "Madison" hence the name of the film.

I enjoyed the film for what it was, a basic feel good father/son story, quite similar to a lot of other films out there. There was just one thing different about it, it is about a hydro plane competition, and it is a true story.

I won't lie to you, I felt for the characters in the story as if they were actually living the events at that time, and that is good for any movie.

I would have given this film a higher rating than a "7" (even though a 7 isn't too bad) but I lost interest towards the middle/end. It started getting repetitive, and when films get repetitive and I am already skeptical of it, The end result isn't so good.

I will give this film credit for it's great father/son relationship, and their dedication for winning, but this film could have been so much better.

The Greatest Horror Film Of All-Time.

Posted : 15 years, 6 months ago on 1 November 2008 09:18 (A review of Halloween)

The Night He Came Home!

I'm not joking when I say that this is easily the greatest horror film ever created. From the music and the suspense, to the creepy yet amazing villain "Micheal Myers", this film did more than just prove itself, it redefined movie history.

Filmed in just several weeks and with a budget of just over 300,000 dollars, Halloween was the most successful independent film ever made. But the whole process would not have been possible without the help of the amazing John Carpenter, and His inspiration, the amazing Alfred Hitchcock, specifically his film "Psycho". Carpenter's goal was to create a film different from any others, (with the exception of the classic slasher villain related to the film "Psycho"). The title as well. As he was searching for other movies with a similar title, he realized that there had never been a film called "Halloween" nor had there ever even been a film with the word incorporated into it. He and his crew were surprised, and at the same time very excited.

The film was first based on babysitter murders. He thought it would be a clever and unique idea to have a film about a few babysitters being stalked by a murderous villain. Though the whole stalker idea came up later, along with the famous Micheal mask, which is my favorite mask out of all the horror characters. Ever wonder where the mask originated from? The mask was originally made for William Shatner's 1960 character "Captain Kirk". They just redid the facial features and the hair so that it would look a little better to suite a creepy killer. I just recently figured that out.

John Carpenter was not the only genius mind behind Halloween. Also helping out was Debra Hill who was in charge of the amazing screenplay. Since Hill was also the script supervisor for John Carpenter's 1976 film "Assault On Precinct 13" this worked out perfectly. Debra Hill did an amazing job writing the screenplay.

I know I have already mentioned this, but "Halloween" is the best horror film ever made. If you have not watched it, then please do, and you will agree with me. Micheal Myers continues to be, and always will be my favorite horror villain ever.

A Hilarious Film.

Posted : 15 years, 6 months ago on 31 October 2008 02:18 (A review of The Yes Men)

"Yes Men" is about two best friends who are anti-corporate activists. They fake their identities as they go to conventions, conferences, meetings and so on, acting as members from the World Trade Organization.

What they are able to do is hysterical. They build costumes, create funny looking disguises, and get away with so many things. And the surprising thing is they never get caught, and some of it is illegal which makes it that much funnier. One of the costumes that I found funny was a yellow spandex-like suit with an inappropriate shape that pops out from it. They presented that costume at a college to a bunch of kids while also advertising how Mcdonalds burgers are made, which of course is also a joke.

This is one of the funniest films of it's genre that I have ever watched. I highly recommend you watch it too.

Amazingly Fun.

Posted : 15 years, 6 months ago on 28 October 2008 05:43 (A review of Chicken Invaders 3: Revenge Of The Yolk)

This version of Chicken Invaders is probably the best one yet. It is honestly just mindless button pressing, or mouse clicking, which ever you prefer, and that is why it's so fun. It is the most basic game ever made, yet one of the most fun. The crazy thing is, there are so many great features mixed into such a small game. There are 120 waves, a bunch of power-ups, and a bunch of different types of bullets to use, some being more powerful. I personally prefer the red bullets, because they are the most powerful.

I will admit though, this is definitely the most difficult of the series. You can acquire a higher score, but the overall game and bosses are tougher to beat.

I know I sound like a nerd, but if you try this game, you will catch yourself being a nerd too. This is one of the greatest games I have ever played.

A Good Solid Crime/Drama.*

Posted : 15 years, 6 months ago on 28 October 2008 04:32 (A review of Pride and Glory)

Let me start off by saying that this film was reviewed very positively on worstpreviews.com. The reviewers compared it to "The Departed", which has absolutely no comparison. So don't go into this film with those expectations, and don't change your opinion based solely on that. I am not saying this film was not good, but just nowhere near the quality of that amazing film.

The last film I saw similar to this was "We Own The Night" which was a very good film, but not as good as this. This was much more of a drama then anything, much more than "We Own The Night", and many other cop dramas. Maybe comparing it to "Street Kings" would be a smarter way to go, but this still easily surpasses that as well.

The film is about three policeman (Farrell, Norton, Emmerich) They are all full brothers, except Jimmy Egan, who is only their brother in-law. They are all investigating a lethal shooting of four other policeman. As the film progresses, two of the men start unveiling clues as to who committed the crime, and that it might be one of their own. As Egan continues to be suspected of being the main cause of it, emotions fly, and there is a dirty cop in the unit. How the rest of the story unfolds is extremely entertaining, and will be sure to have you hooked.

The This film is filled with a lot of violent scenes, which in my opinion is a must for cop films, so I was impressed with them, and at the same time has so many great non-violent scenes. The relationships between the family members were greatly shown, and looked very much like real-life family get togethers. If there was one great aspect of this film, I would say it is the character development. It seemed like Gavin O'Connor really incorprated it into this film, and did a great job.

"Pride And Glory" is one of the most entertaining films of 2008, and probably one of the best made crime/dramas in awhile.

Hyped Up, But A Disappointment.

Posted : 15 years, 6 months ago on 26 October 2008 08:27 (A review of Saw V)

You won't believe how it ends

*MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS*

I was extremely excited after first watching the trailer for Saw V. I was honestly expecting it to surpass most of the other saw films. It had so much hype coming into the theaters. The truth is, it was a huge disappointment. I mean, the story was basically all there, It was excellent as usual, but nowhere near as good as the previous films (In my opinion the original was the best).

I was pretty bored throughout most of this film. They tried too hard to play mind games on us and make the storyline way "too" good. It begins with the investigations of the crimes from Jigsaw, and flashbacks at how they happened. The main character is agent Strahm, who pretty much makes all the investigations and does a great job at discovering who Jigsaw was and who he had helping him. I admit, I thought it was pretty cool how they went back to the previous Saw films and expanded on each scene to show you what was really going on.

The main contraption incorporated was a pretty basic, and not very exciting one. There were Six strangers this time, who all have something in common that make each of them hate each other, but it is like that in all of the films, so no surprise there. They were trapped in a chain-like thing, and had to get the key to escape. And of course the only way to get the key was to have one of the people be killed. I was always very amazed at the genious ways of Jigsaw's previous traps, but this was a poorly made one. The acting from the six strangers was poor as well. Usually they are pretty good, but not this time. In my opinion they weren't shown enough in the film. They were all gone too quick.

I am not saying that "Saw V" is a bad film, but they probably should have just stuck with four. If you are looking for a mildly entertaining mind boggling thriller, then please do watch this film.

5.6/10
